The Inner Voice of Love: A Journey Through Anguish to Freedom, New York: Image, 1996, p.3)
There is a deep hole in [my] being, like an abyss.
[I] will never succeed in filling that hole,
because [my] needs are inexhaustible.
[I] have to work around it so that gradually the abyss closes.
Since the hole is so enormous and [my] anguish so deep,
[I] will always be tempted to flee from it.
There are two extremes to avoid:
being completely absorbed in [my] pain
and being distracted by so many things
that [I] stay far away from the wound [I] want to heal.
